Welcome back, fellow readers! Make sure to take a moment to grab a coffee, tea, or drink of choice, and settle in as we get started! As we all keep up the Christmas festivities (or what I like to call, The Christmas Marathon), we’re going to be taking a break from all the winter cleaning and decorating and talk a little bit about Realtors®.
Real estate agents, real estate brokers, and Realtors... What’s the difference?
Great question reader!
When it comes to the real estate and relocation field, there are many times in which these terms are used interchangeably, but there are some key differences between each one!
Real Estate Agents
Real estate agents are professionals that have received an education or training within the real estate field and have successfully attained a license to help clients buy, sell and rent any property.
Real Estate Brokers
Real estate brokers are an elevated version of real estate agents. They have an expanded knowledge and deeper understanding of topics coveredto be an agent. Such topics can include ethics, insurance, taxes, local/federal laws, and so on. Brokers are legally required to take these additional courses and pass their respective exam to hold a license.
Realtors
Like we have mentioned before in one of our posts: all Realtors are real estate agents/brokers, but not all agents/brokers are Realtors. So, what sets Realtors apart from the rest? Realtors must be members of the National Association for Realtors®, where every member upholds the association’s code of ethics and standards. They must also regularly attend courses to continue ensure best practices and updated informationwithin their profession.
When a Realtor works with a client, they make sure to stand in their corner and tend to any rocky trails that may come. Whether one is buying, selling, or renting, dealing with the real estate market as a whole can be alot to take in. Realtors are prepared to stand by your side no matter what.
Beyond keeping the client’s needs at the center, Realtors typically have an expansive network of connections as they are involved in both the localand national levels of the real estate market. When working with a Realtor, one can be rest assured that they’ll most likely be a leader in the field.
Understanding the Key Differences: Real Estate Agents vs Brokers vs Realtors
A real estate agent is ideal for transactions involving single-family homes, condos, apartments, and residential properties in general. They are experts in the real estate market and will guide you through the purchase or sale of your home.
On the other hand, when you are looking to buy or sell commercial properties, such as office buildings, retail spaces, or large-scale investments, a real estate broker is the right choice. They have a deep understanding of the commercial aspects of the market.
Finally, if you value a high level of ethics and standards in your real estate transaction, a Realtor is the choice, as they follow a strict code of ethics and are committed to providing quality service. They are ideal for any type of real estate transaction where you want the utmost integrity and professionalism.
At the end of the day, whether you work with a real estate agent, broker, or Realtor, you will most likely meet a professional that is good at what they do. It’s always important to do one’s own research before entrusting a very important process to another person, therefore, it’s my goal to giveyou the information you need.
Thanks for joining in on this educational adventure. It’s time to go back to decorating and enjoying some fun in the sun! See you next week!
